Product description

Caption of photo: Aluminium workpiece with surfaces coated with the LASOX-COAT® process.

While the workpiece is under an oxygen atmosphere, the laser is targeted along the surface to be coated. The laser starts to melt the alloy and some particles will vaporize. Together with the oxygen this leads to the formation of an oxygen plasma. The oxygen plasma - which consists of ionized atoms - and the molten aluminium react to aluminium oxide (corundum, Al2O3) which now covers the treated surface.
LASOX-COAT® is best suited for wear protection, but can also be used to reduce corrosion on a workpiece. With the selective coating process writings, single lines, complex forms or even pattern can be produced. To increase the wear resistance an area does not always have to be completely coated, also a "tartan" makes a surface already more wear resistant. While flat surfaces are preferred, round surfaces are also possible. Small coating surfaces on a large part are ideal for LASOX-COAT®, because then the locally generated heat can flow off well.
