For many parts usually made of aluminum by dye casting and subsequent CNC manufacturing, both goals can be achieved. The decisive key innovation is a simple metal plating process of PPS polymer (polyphenylene sulfide).
It produces stable coating systems with excellent EMI shielding, is free of chromium (VI) or other highly toxic substances and is already available in a production scale according to automotive standards. The end product can be completely recycled and its carbon footprint is just a fraction compared to the one of its aluminum counterpart.
